The Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust is an accredited land trust by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. We operate under the highest standards of land stewardship ensuring that lands under our management maintain their conservation value and are protected forever.
In 2009, RLHT achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification through an FSC group administered by the Trust to Conserve the Northeast Forestlands (TCNF). TCNF is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to supporting exemplary forest professionals. The FSC certification is an internationally recognized and respected system that provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment.
Since 2012 RLHT has also maintained a Maine Tree Farm certification ensuring that our forest are managed to enhance forest and wildlife habitat and health, provide recreational opportunities and grow and harvest forest products.
Our stewardship practices ensures that the landowner's wishes and Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust's responsibilities are both upheld. We do this several ways:
- Building relationships with landowners.
- Each conservation easement is monitored annually. We visit the parcel each year to document the current state and document any changes in writing and with photos.
- By complying with grant objectives, federal and state laws and accreditation standards.
- Maintaining a fund dedicated to the perpetuity of our conservation easements.
We are privileged to work with so many landowners and professionals who are committed to conservation and are active stewards of their land.
