In honor of John Bicknell

John BicknellEvery so often one of those rare spirits appears in the world who possesses a deep and abiding love of the natural world. John Bicknell was one of those spirits. He truly found joy in the outdoors.

The Mingo Springs Trail & Bird Walk was a passion of John's since it's early design over a decade ago.  The creation of this trail was part of Mingo's quest for recognition of the Mingo Springs Golf Course as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.  The Chodosh family and Mingo staff began this effort in 2007.  As Audubon Liaison for Mingo Springs, John was instrumental in completing the intensive certification application.  In 2016, when Mingo Springs was awarded Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification, John was recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International.

In late 2018 John lost a long and courageous fight with cancer. Yet his spirit still lives on in the beauty of the birding trail he envisioned and created at Mingo Springs. The inaugural Rangeley Birding Festival is dedicated to John and his memory.
